Homework

Homework will be 20% of your grade. Homework is checked at the beginning of each class period if it was assigned the previous day.  If your work is neat and thorough and a clear attempt to do the homework was made, you are guaranteed something better than a zero.

Homework will be graded on a 3 point scale.  3 points will be awarded for complete and on time, 2 points will be awarded for on time and mostly complete, or 1 day late and complete, 1 point for incomplete or just answers, and zero for a missing assignment.

If you choose not to hand in homework, the maximum grade you can receive on the report card is 80. That assumes perfect tests, quizzes, classwork, and notebook grades.  This is very unrealistic.

You can expect homework about four times a week, on average. It will be done on loose leaf (or graph paper) in your notes.  If it is late, homework must be turned into the late bin with the student's name, the date, and the homework number on it.  It is not necessary to copy out the problem statement, but each question should be clearly identified by the problem number or other reference.

Homework is a presentation of your effort and understanding. If the teacher can not read it, you can not get credit for it.

Students who are absent for any reason are responsible for making up the homework. If a student has an excused absence, then the deadline for completing the homework "on time" is extended, depending on the length of the absence. If the student has an unexcused absence (aka "cutting"), then there is no extension and the homework will be considered late. Please note that an excused absence requires a written note, which should be brought in on the first day back to class.
