Absence
Absences hurt your ability to keep up with the class and to master the material. Although assignments are posted for you to "get your credit" for a class that you have missed, there is no substitute for being in class and participating in the discussion, problem-solving, and other activities.
If you bring in a dated note to the teacher the day you return from your absence, your absence will be marked "excused". The specific date(s) of absence must be marked on the note or it cannot be accepted. It is not necessary to write a separate note for each teacher, but you must bring the note to all your teachers so that they know the absence was excused before you give the note to the main office. Teachers will sign the note to show that they have seen it.
An excused absence allows you an extension of time to complete any missed assignments without losing credit for late work. An excused absence also allows you to sit for a makeup exam. Please note that makeup exams may be more difficult than the original exams, and do not have any bonuses or extra credit questions.
Absences that are not excused in writing are considered "cutting". There is no extension of time for missing work, so assignments will receive only late credit. There are no makeup exams allowed for classes that have been cut. Cutting is periodically reported to the dean, who may assign detention or other consequences for repeated cutting.
It is your responsibility to manage your absence, complete your homework and classwork assignments, attend any makeup exams, and get notes from a classmate. This web site will help by giving you the details of your missed assignments, but it is not a substitute for the missed class.
If you will be absent for a longer period for time, or if there are special circumstances, please have your parent contact the teacher so that we can customize a plan to help you.
tl,dr: If you did not show the teacher an absence note when you returned to school, you can be considered "cutting" and can be given any of the consequences of cutting, including a zero on any missed tests.
