Aim: How can we use our understanding of rational numbers to solve real-world problems?
Homework: Prepare for quiz tomorrow
Do Now: You are given the problem: 7 + (-3) = ?
Explain how you can use integer chips to model the problem and then a number line to verify your work.
Classwork: The class worked on the Distance Between Two Houses Task in their collaborative groups. This task is an opportunity to use concepts from class in a real-world context involving houses. It also strengthens rational number skills such as adding and subtracting positive and negative mixed numbers, and placing numbers on a number line.
Announcements: There will be a quiz Wednesday 9/20/17! Topics will include: comparing positive and negative numbers, ordering rational numbers (including positive and negative fractions/decimals), temperature problems, number line applications, and chip models.
