AIM: How can we use proportions to find missing lengths in similar figures?
HW: Similar Figures Worksheet #2-4, 11-17
Classwork: We reviewed the concept of solving proportions today. This is a 6th grade skill that can be used to solve 7th grade similar figures problems. Students learned how to set up proportions using corresponding sides and variables to find missing lengths. As a reminder, students should write the proportion in words before substituting numbers in. This helps avoid mistakes that occur when ratios are not consistent. This problem solving method can be used as an alternate to using scale factors. In the future, students can pick the method they prefer best, or the one that is easier/faster for a given problem.
