What is her math test average? We began a mini unit on statistical inference today. From prior knowledge, students knew that the mean is a mathematical way of saying average. Means can be calculated by adding all the numbers in a data set, and dividing by the number of numbers. Median is a measure of a data set that finds the "middle number." First order the numbers from least to greatest, then determine the middle number. If there are two middle numbers, find the average of the two. Mode is the data value that appears the most in a data set. Sometimes there is no mode.
