Aim: What strategies can you use to find the missing value in a proportion?
Homework: Comparing and Scaling p.25-26 #19,29-31
Do Now: The ratio of doctors in NY is about 12 men to 7 women. If about 60,000 NY doctors are men, how can we determine how many doctors are women?
Classwork: We investigated proportional reasoning and how it can be used, in conjunction with scaling, to solve problems.
When writing proportions, start by writing the proportion in words. This will help to keep your work organized.
Then substitute the values (and a variable) into their appropriate locations.
Solve the proportion by using scale factors or cross-multiplication.
Announcements: There will be a quiz next Wednesday, November 1. This quiz will cover comparison statements, part-to-part and part-to-whole ratio, and proportions.
