What percent of the car price is tax?
What percent of the restaurant bill is tip?
What percent of the shirt cost is the discount?
Students worked with their partner on three focal problems involving percent. The situations required students to determine the percent of an amount. Partners compared their work and analyzed methods.
In another activity, students were given problems with insufficient information. They needed to ask for specific information from a partner holding (and not showing) a data card. Once the necessary information was gathered, they solved and analyzed the solution.
