Aim: How can we use the distributive property?
Homework: Accentuate the Negative - Problem 4.2 A-C
Simplify each expression.
1. 3 x 7 - 9 2. (9 - 5)6
3. 8 + 2 x 6 4. 2(6 - 3)
5. 4 x 5 - 4 x 3 6. 3x 2 - 1x2
Classwork: We learned that the distributive property can be used to rewrite multiplication expressions into equivalent forms. The distributive property multiplies the outer term to each term inside the parentheses. We can also use the distributive property in reverse (called factoring) to rewrite expressions into terms that are more useful to work with.
Announcements: There will be a Unit Test on Friday, October 13 (tentative date). The backup date will be October 17th.
The test will have everything from the quizzes, along with multiplication, division, order of operations, distributive property.
You will also be responsible for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative rational numbers, including decimals and fractions.
